Cambodia & Laos Retreat FAQ

15 questions to help you prepare for this sacred journey

The retreat runs from February 14 to 25, 2027 - 12 extraordinary days across two countries. We begin in Luang Prabang, Laos - a UNESCO World Heritage city - where we stay for five nights at the Satri House Hotel. On February 19th we fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia, where we spend six nights at Maison Polanka, gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage temples of Angkor.

The retreat is priced at approximately $3,899 USD per person for a shared (double) room, or $6,299 USD per person for a single (private) room. These prices include 11 nights of luxury accommodations, all retreat practices with Susan, two pre-trip Zoom calls, one personal 1:1 session with Susan during the retreat, all breakfasts and dinners, the internal flight from Luang Prabang to Siem Reap, transportation between retreat locations, select excursions, and airport transfer on departure day.

Your retreat package includes: 11 nights of accommodations in luxurious properties with air conditioning and wifi; all retreat practices - meditation, teaching, and guidance - led by Susan; two pre-trip group Zoom calls for sharing information, trip guidance, and introduction to meditation; one personal 1:1 session with Susan during the retreat; all breakfasts and dinners; the internal flight from Luang Prabang to Siem Reap on February 19th; transportation by air-conditioned coach between all retreat locations; select excursions and guide services; and transportation to Siem Reap International Airport on February 25th.

The following are not included: international flights to and from Laos/Cambodia; lunches or extra meals beyond the included breakfasts and dinners; alcoholic beverages; transportation from Luang Prabang International Airport to the hotel on arrival day (though this can be arranged); cost of Laos and Cambodian visas; excursions apart from those described in the itinerary; tips and personal purchases; and spa, massage, or movement/yoga classes, which can be booked privately.

Booking and secure payment are arranged through our trusted partner, North South Travel (a licensed travel agency). An initial non-refundable deposit of $1,500 USD per room is due immediately to secure your spot. Spaces are extremely limited given the exclusivity of the accommodations. The balance of payment is due by Monday, November 30th, 2026 - failure to pay by this date will forfeit your place on the retreat.

Yes. Canadians and Americans need visas for both countries. Laos visas are available on arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport. Cambodian visas can be obtained online at evisa.gov.kh. Your passport must be current with at least 6 months of validity remaining before the expiration date. We recommend applying for your Cambodian e-visa well in advance of the trip.

There are no required vaccinations for Laos or Cambodia. However, participants are advised to consult a travel medical specialist before the trip. Avoiding mosquito bites is important due to mosquito-borne illnesses in the region. Your travel doctor can advise on appropriate precautions.

Each day is thoughtfully structured to balance guided practice with personal exploration. Mornings begin with meditation and spiritual teaching led by Susan, often woven from the Tao Te Ching and the wisdom traditions. Afternoons offer a blend of guided excursions, group activities, and free time for personal reflection, spa treatments, or exploring the local area. Evenings include shared dinners and, on some nights, evening meditation or group sharing circles.

Both properties are luxurious and carefully chosen for their beauty and spiritual atmosphere. The Satri House Hotel in Luang Prabang is a heritage boutique hotel ... once the residence of Prince Souphanouvong - set among lush tropical gardens with a serene swimming pool, blending traditional Lao architecture with modern comforts. Maison Polanka in Siem Reap is an intimate property of traditional Cambodian wooden bungalows surrounded by tropical gardens, reserved exclusively for our group.

Absolutely. This retreat is designed for anyone who feels called to it - whether you are new to meditation and spiritual practice or have been on this path for many years. Susan meets each person exactly where they are. The two pre-trip Zoom calls include an introduction to meditation, so you will feel prepared and supported from the very beginning. Many past retreat participants have described it as their first spiritual retreat, and they found it profoundly welcoming.

Yes. Every participant receives one personal 1:1 session with Susan during the retreat, included in your retreat package. These private sessions are a deeply personal opportunity to explore whatever is arising for you - whether it is a specific challenge, a question about your spiritual path, or simply a desire for deeper connection and guidance.

Both Laos and Cambodia in February are warm and humid, with temperatures typically between 25 - 35°C (77 - 95°F). Pack lightweight, breathable clothing in natural fabrics. Modest clothing is required for temple visits - shoulders and knees should be covered. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for temple explorations. We also recommend bringing a journal, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, and any personal meditation items that are meaningful to you.

Yes. Both properties are experienced in accommodating a wide range of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other specific requirements. Please let us know about your dietary needs when you book, and we will ensure everything is arranged in advance.

The initial deposit of $1,500 USD per room is non-refundable. We strongly recommend purchasing complete travel insurance that includes trip cancellation coverage. The balance of payment is due by November 30th, 2026. Cancellation policies for the balance will be communicated through North South Travel at the time of booking. We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we encourage you to protect your investment with appropriate insurance.

Transportation from Luang Prabang International Airport to the Satri House Hotel on arrival day is not included in the retreat package but can be easily arranged. We will provide detailed arrival instructions and can coordinate airport transfers through North South Travel. The hotel is a short drive from the airport, and a private car transfer is the most comfortable option.
