Elevated Body Card - Immune System

Elevated Body Oracle Deck

The Immune System

Are you constantly attacking or defending - or can you open to life's full embrace, knowing that all influences are doorways of greater expansion?

Purpose

The Defence Army of Specialised Cells

The immune system is your defence army of specialised cells and organs, constantly on alert for malicious invaders or injuries to your physical health. When activated, it quickly initiates attack, defence, or repair, in efforts to minimise damage and restore health. If, however, its capacity is overwhelmed, further havoc or even death may result. Issues arise through confusing what is "you" versus what is "other" - overlooking an insidious invader in disguise, or unwittingly continuing to attack a part that is actually "you," resulting in auto-immune disorders or continued self-sabotage.

In Susan Drury's understanding, the immune system reflects our relationship with boundaries ... the ability to discern what is truly threatening from what is benign, what is "self" from what is "other." When this discernment is compromised - when we attack parts of ourselves, or when we fail to recognise genuine threats - the immune system mirrors this confusion through its many conditions.

Susan teaches that the immune system's deepest invitation is paradoxical: to release the need to protect against life itself. This does not mean abandoning healthy boundaries - it means recognising that healing and evolution of Self is the highest purpose, and that all influences, even those that initially feel threatening, can become doorways of greater expansion. This is the immune system's transcendence: from constant vigilance to open embrace.

◇ Inquiry

When the Body Attacks Itself

Consider whether there is anything in life we are judging as "other" or harmful. Do we feel the need to continually "attack or defend" against something? It is worthwhile to question whether this is a legitimate danger, or actually quite benign. There may be experiences in our past that felt like an invasion or injury to our integrity, and now feel like a "cancer," weakening us from living life fully in the present. What continually "inflames" us? Sometimes we escalate small aggravations into a bigger deal, which can "infect" other aspects of our lives in a self-destructive way.

"Auto-immune conditions are the body's way of saying: I have lost the ability to distinguish friend from foe. I am attacking myself. This is not just a physical condition - it is a spiritual one. When we turn our own defences against ourselves, the Immune System card asks: What part of yourself have you declared 'other'? What part of your own being are you at war with?"

✦ Transcendence

The Affirmation Your Immune System Has Been Waiting to Hear

"Healing and evolution of Self is my highest purpose, and all influences are doorways of greater expansion, even beyond the body."

"I welcome every experience as an opportunity to grow and awaken. What once felt like threat or injury, I now see as invitation."

"I release the need to protect against life, and instead open to its full embrace."

"Ultimately there is nothing to attack, nothing to defend: I am One with all that is."

Working with the Immune System Card

Friend or Foe Inquiry

Examine what you are currently judging as threatening or harmful in your life. For each perceived threat, ask: Is this truly dangerous? Or is it benign - perhaps even beneficial? The Immune System card invites discernment between genuine threats and old patterns of vigilance.

Self-Acceptance Practice

Identify the parts of yourself that you have declared 'other' - the qualities you reject, the emotions you suppress, the aspects you are at war with. The Immune System card teaches that wholeness comes from embracing all of who you are, not from attacking the parts you dislike.

Inflammation Awareness

Notice what 'inflames' you - the small aggravations you escalate into larger dramas. Each time you catch yourself inflaming a situation, pause and ask: Is this worth the energy I am giving it? The Immune System card invites proportionate response rather than escalation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does auto-immune mean spiritually?

Auto-immune conditions reflect a confusion between self and other - the body attacking its own tissues. Spiritually, this mirrors the ways we turn against ourselves: self-criticism, self-sabotage, rejecting parts of who we are. The Immune System card invites a return to wholeness through self-acceptance.

How does this card relate to boundaries?

The immune system is the body's boundary system - discerning what belongs and what does not. The card invites you to examine your own boundaries: Are they appropriate? Are you defending against things that are actually benign? Are you failing to protect yourself from genuine harm?

What does 'I am One with all that is' mean?

This is the immune system's highest transcendence - the recognition that at the deepest level, there is no separation between self and other. When we release the need to constantly attack and defend, we open to the unity that underlies all apparent division.

Open to Life's Full Embrace

Release the need to protect against life. Welcome every experience as an opportunity to grow. Ultimately there is nothing to attack, nothing to defend - you are One with all that is.
