Purpose
The Control Centre of Consciousness
The head brain is the control centre for much of your body's physical functioning and communication. Many "housekeeping" directives happen below your conscious awareness. What you are conscious of, however, is this sense of "yourself" and "reality," based on perceptions of your experiences. These perceptions, formed from your past, become the expectations, beliefs, and projections predicted for the future. Issues are plentiful and include injury, pain, tumours, stroke, loss of memory or other functions.
In Susan Drury's understanding, the head is both the body's most powerful instrument and its most common prison. The head brain constructs our sense of reality from past experiences - and when those experiences were limiting, painful, or fearful, the head brain constructs a limited, painful, fearful reality. Susan's work with neuroplasticity has shown her that the brain is not fixed - it can rewire itself, expand beyond old patterns, and open to entirely new possibilities.
The Head card invites a deep shift: from thinking "inside the box" of outdated assumptions and negative self-talk, to opening to the heart's guidance toward new and more fulfilling possibilities. This is not about abandoning the mind ... it is about expanding it, allowing it to work in partnership with the heart's wisdom rather than in isolation.
◇ Inquiry
When the Mind Becomes a Prison
We can feel pressured to accumulate too much "head knowledge" at the expense of our intuitive guidance, resulting in "headache." As children, many of the messages we received belittled or put us down; we went "unconscious" to our true goodness and inherent value. We may still think "inside the box" of outdated, limiting assumptions or negative self-talk, blocking out the heart's guidance towards new and more fulfilling possibilities. We can "bang our head against the wall," trying to force something that may not be the best course of action.
"The head brain is a magnificent instrument ... but it was never meant to run the show alone. When we try to figure everything out with the mind, we exhaust ourselves and miss the heart's quiet knowing. The Head card invites you to let go of mental gymnastics and trust the wisdom that comes from a deeper place."
✦ Transcendence
The Affirmation Your Head Has Been Waiting to Hear
"I let go of mental gymnastics and the need to figure everything out with my mind alone."
"I trust the wisdom from my heart, and the quiet knowing within."
"Through higher guidance, my consciousness expands outside the box of old fears or outdated beliefs."
"I am open, receptive, and eager to discover the fullness of who I am becoming. My mind is a beautiful instrument in service to my highest unfolding."
Working with the Head Card
Belief Audit
Write down your most persistent thoughts about yourself. For each one, ask: Is this true? Is this mine? Is this still relevant? Many of the beliefs running in our head brain were installed in childhood and have never been updated. The Head card invites a conscious review.
Heart-Head Dialogue
When facing a decision, ask your head what it thinks ... and then ask your heart what it feels. Notice the difference. The Head card teaches that the most powerful decisions come from the partnership of head and heart, not from either one alone.
Stillness Practice
Sit quietly and allow your thoughts to pass without engaging them. This is not about stopping thought - it is about recognising that you are not your thoughts. You are the awareness in which thoughts arise. This practice expands consciousness beyond the box of the thinking mind.

Learn More About SusanFrequently Asked Questions
How does the Head card relate to the Heart card?
The Head and Heart cards form a powerful partnership. The Head represents the thinking mind; the Heart represents intuitive wisdom. True wholeness comes from their collaboration - the mind in service to the heart's knowing, rather than overriding it.
What does 'thinking inside the box' mean in this context?
It refers to the limiting beliefs, assumptions, and patterns of thought that were formed in childhood and have never been updated. These old programs run automatically, creating a 'box' that constrains our perception of what is possible.
Can the brain really rewire itself?
Yes - this is the science of neuroplasticity. The brain can form new neural pathways at any age. Susan's work draws on this understanding to help people literally rewire their thinking patterns, moving from limitation to expansion.
Expand Beyond the Box
